The COCASAM cooperative was founded in 1988 by 16 small coffee producers. The farms are located on the Botija ridge, which was the first place to produce coffee in the country. In the municipality of San Marcos de Colón, this group of farmers focus on traditional practices learned back in the 1800s to produce high quality coffee while protecting the livelihoods of farmer families, community, and environment. In Honduras, coffee was originally ornamental, but has since become the largest producing country in Central America.
