Sumac Berries

Sumac has a fruity, tart flavor and aroma and it can be used instead of lemon juice for a twist on your favorite dishes. Sumac is the dried, ground fruit of flowering plants in the Rhus genus. Sumac is a traditional Middle Eastern ingredient that is used to add a citrus component to meats or salads. It is commonly added to rice, and kebabs. Stir into hummus or rub on chicken, shrimp or veggies before grilling. Mix with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a unique salad dressing or marinade.
