The Problem
Being busy is a good problem to have, except when the logistics of last-minute delivery present a setback in your day-to-day. Rosemarie DeMaio, owner of Mama’s Custom Cookies, found that she was having that ‘good problem’ more and more.
Generally, Rosemarie asks customers for at least two weeks lead time on an order. She highly recommends booking an order date as soon as possible, as she’s known to book up 4 to 6 weeks in advance. Rosemarie didn’t want to turn away the business, but last-minute rush orders often meant long hours and longer drives.
The Challenges
In the past, if Rosemarie took on a rush order or last-minute customers, she’d often stay late at night to get the order in the mail the next day. She’d hand it off to the USPS, but didn’t have 100% reassurance that her package would be hand delivered with the utmost care. As more of these rush orders came in, Rosemarie found herself driving into the city a few times per month. Those long drives were “getting out of hand,” she recalled.
“One or two deliveries could take me six hours, and then sometimes I’d have to take an extra person with me,” Rosemarie said, describing the challenges of city parking. “It’d really be a headache sometimes.”
